Joseph J. Buchino, MD is a retired physician whose interest in photography began in late 1998 when he was on a trip to Alaska with his son. Since that time, he has become an accomplished photographer and has photographed a wide range of subjects including landscape, architecture, portraiture, flowers, and animals, in addition to demonstrating expertise in abstract and macro photography.
Joe has photographed on all seven continents, as well as the geographic North Pole, combining his love of photography and travel. But he also photographs close to home seeing the beauty in things great and small. He has exhibited his work in several galleries and locations in both Virginia and Kentucky including the National Institute of Health; the Art League’s Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia; the Arlington Library; Actors Theatre of Louisville; and the Main Louisville Public Library. His understanding of composition and light has won him numerous awards at local photography clubs and several institutions have his work on permanent display. Joe did the photography for a book “Porching: A Humorous Look at America’s Favorite Pastime” (Minervia Books, LLC 2003) which was written by his brother, Dr. John J. Buchino.
Perhaps the most important aspect of photography is the art of “seeing” those things which we might otherwise pass by or take for granted. It is this art that Dr. Buchino continues to pursue in making his images.
